Race for the Cure

Breast Cancer Changed My Life
Together we can make a difference.
As a two-time breast cancer survivor there was a time, I kept things private. The first time was radiation and 8 years later, when I thought I was out of the woods, it was a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. Two years before my first round with cancer, I lost my boss Diane, a mentor and friend to her battle with breast cancer. She was a wonderful business leader, mentor, friend and most importantly the mother of two young daughters. The most terrifying part of having breast cancer is not death or losing your hair, it is telling your children that you are sick. To this day, it haunts me. When my 7-year-old looked into my eyes and asked if I was going to die my heart broke. I was very aware of how scared my four kids were even though they tried to be strong and supportive. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. In the US, this year 240,000 women and 2,100 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. I am sure you, like me, have someone you know who has been diagnosed.
